C.K. Choi Building Room 120 (1855 West Mall)

Welcome to the age of “snack reading”.
How much time in a day are you staring at the screen of your phone, tablet or computer, scrolling Facebook, Twitter, Wechat or Weibo, absorbing pieces of information from celebrity gossips to global politics?
In our time, information are unprecedentedly abundant, but are also increasingly fragmented. It has never been easier to acquire new knowledge, yet the line separating true and false is blurring.

Is “snack reading” changing our way of thinking?
Is “snack reading” changing the society? Are the voice of the marginalized more heard, or are they lost in the void of “likes” and “shares”?

Zhou Yijun, a famous pundit, says that “the ‘new human beings’ represented by Trump spend more time on Internet and TV than on reading books. They like the rather simpler sources of information, and so they love solutions that are simple and straightforward—no taxes, no tuition, deport the immigrants, build a wall”.
Do you agree? Are we turning into “new human beings”?

Join us in a conversation about knowledge, information, media and social change. We are very excited to welcome 25 participants of this year’s NTGx Exchange Program from Taiwan to join us. Let’s share our stories and spark some wonderful thoughts!

WHEN: Tues, Jan 24th, 6-8:30pm
WHERE: C. K. Choi Building Room 120 (1855 West Mall)
